35 YEAR REUNION
October 20-22, 2022

[A Final Message from the Reunion Committee – by Sarah Dale Anderson]

Another successful reunion has come and gone! It was one of those rare opportunities where we got to revisit our younger selves, reminisce about old times, and get to know old friends and acquaintances as adults. Every reunion I’m reminded at how special our time together at Westlake was. I heard many of you talk about how fortunate we were to have so many freedoms growing up, and how lucky we were to not only survive our childhood, but thrive. Our bonds seem to be all that much stronger because of the unique time and place we grew up. Latchkey kids who took care of business every day – adaptable and independent. I’m so proud of who we have all become!

I’d like to give a quick shout out to all of the people who made the reunion possible this year:

  • Kathryn Wiley: was definitely the Reunion MVP. The holder of all information on the class, and the most organized person around – she kept all of you looped in, and the committee focused and on task.
  • Julie Koehn: even though she could only attend Thursday’s happy hour, she still helped organize everything.
  • Cami Dato: committee member who wrangled info from the Alumni Association, was instrumental in getting information on game tickets, and helped throughout all the planning, even during the time of her father’s death. A real trouper!
  • Jeff Kahl: part of the reunion committee and provider of beer for the Friday tailgate party. Unfortunately, a bout of Covid prevented him from attending.
  • Rudy Yu: part of the committee and definitely most enthusiastic alumni – I suspect most of you attended because of a call from Rudy.
  • Trent Davis: part of the committee and all around helpful guy at EVERY event – no task was too big or small to take on.
  • Jennifer McElhenney: committee member who assisted us with checking out venue options.
  • Shawna Sieck: provided invaluable help with the Friday tailgate party, including getting the kegs to the game and providing the TV so we could watch from the parking lot – also during the time of her father’s death.
  • Mark Bristol: invaluable AV/IT extraordinaire, responsible for us being able to enjoy all our photos, music, the video yearbook, and our In Memoriam slides.
  • Carl Clark: another AV extraordinaire, responsible for getting the TV and livestream set up for Friday – a small challenge in the dark.

Thank you to everyone who came out this weekend, and those locals who let out of town classmates stay with them to help out on costs – it was great to see you all! For those of you who could not attend, you were missed and we hope that you will be able to join us for the 40th!

Until we are together again, remember “Once a Chap, Always a Chap”!

Cheers!
Sarah Dale

[P.S. – Kathryn’s Note on Sarah Dale: fearlessly lead our committee with strength and determination while keeping a great sense of humor, kept us on track and from wondering off topic, powered through times when things we planned on fell through (including our Saturday night venue and a HUGE scramble the day before when we realized all our photos had been deleted from DropBox and had to be recreated – it was Sarah to the rescue!). We were lucky to have you!]
